Our Zero Waste Bathroom with Plaine Products:

Our Choice in Zero Waste Bathroom Products for 365 days and counting…

If you have been tuning into our Instagram or Facebook stories, you may have seen me chat a few times over the course of the year about zero waste bathroom products. After 365 full days of review, we are 100% certain that these products will suit EVERY single home. They are that good.

As a Latin woman with very thick and unmanageable hair, I was at a loss with how to go about turning my once plastic-filled bathroom into a zero-waste one, but all of my fears were set aside after finding this product line. I came across Plaine Products while researching after a horrible run-in with a zero waste shampoo bar that left my hair feeling like it needed to go into rehab. Luckily, once this precious box arrived, my hair, body, and face were just lavished in the best quality ingredients a gal could ask for.

Did I mention that they are kid-safe? Yes!

Before we get started, Plaine Products was kind enough to offer all of our followers a 20% off discount code

How It Works

To start, simply head to the Plaine Products website and choose your “box”. For reference, we chose the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, face wash and face lotion for our box*. Let them know where to send the box, what kind of subscription timeline you prefer, and do not forget to include your discount code (WonderMamas20 for 20% off!).

Sit back and wait for the box to arrive. You will receive all of the bottles securely tightened with a bottle cap and twist on pumps to attach, once opened. Once the bottles are empty, simply rinse out and send back with the return label, but KEEP the twist on pumps. The pumps will be used for your NEXT box of bathroom supplies! Return the used bottles in the same box that they came in (returns are free!) and continue this process over and over again.

While you can easily get a one time box, that would not really make sense in keeping your bathroom zero waste. I highly recommend signing up for a subscription box and keeping your bathroom free from plastic for good! It may take a bit of trial and error to get your exact time frame down (the time in between receiving your next box), but we figured it out within 2 months!

Our Review PLUS…

The coolest thing about reviewing these products for 365 days and counting is that we have had the chance to have families and friends from all over the World come and try out our products!

  • First up, my mother told me that the shampoo and conditioner “smelled absolutely delicious and made her hair feel very silky”. She has coarse hair like me so that is a huge compliment!
  • My father does not have much hair (haha), but he LOVED the smell of the body wash!! He was all about it!
  • My grandmother and cousin came in from Mexico and both adored the products so much that they were featured in several social media story posts chatting about how much they admired the company and their amazing ingredients!
  • My girlfriend Kellee, who is an amazing flight attendant and travels all over the World, came in to visit us for a week and could not get over how much she loved the products. She ordered some for herself!
As for our own family, I will never use anything else for my family. We are all thrilled with the products, the design, the simplicity, and the results.

My hair has life and volume again, my face is always break-out free and I trust the ingredients as if I made the products myself.

About the Company: Meet the Makers

Plaine Products was founded by two sisters, Lindsey & Alison Delaplaine, who had dreams of fighting the global plastic crisis.

Lindsey spent 10 years living in the Bahamas and witnessed, first hand, the plastic crisis washed up on the beaches. She took a look around her own bathroom and realized changes needed to happen. Instead of looking to others to change the world, she decided to change it with the help of her sister. Gosh…I admire that.

If you did not already know the scary truth about plastic, here it is:

Every single plastic that has EVER been made (EVER) still exists.

Globally, we produce 300 million tons of plastic waste every single year. Of that 300 million tons, 78% is not reclaimed or recycled.

Lindsey and Alison spent a year researching natural products and ingredients. They were set on staying true to their toxic-free, and cruelty-free standards. These women try and personally approve every single product in the line; as do their children and husbands!

**Lindsey and Allison were kind enough to gift us with our Plaine Products goods but every single part of our review is honest, tried and tested (365 days worth of trial!). As you all know, we take our reviews very seriously and would never work with or share a company that we do not use (and love!) first hand. I do hope you give Plaine Products a chance and reduce plastic in your own home!

Sustainable Home Goods with Lüks

Our family has been on a sustainable and ethical fashion journey for nearly 1 year now and it has been life-changing. Once we became conscious of the hell that happens behind the scenes of the fast-fashion world, we decided that enough was enough and it was time to fight back.

Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want.

Camping Adventure with Children (Sustainable and Ethical Travel Series)

Our family just got home from a wonderful camping trip and I was able to film lots and lots for you all!

All of our prior arrangements were thrown out the window when the rain rolled in and stayed North (exactly where we were headed!) so we had to adapt and head South instead. We ended up staying at Lago di Garda and had such a magical time with the rock covered lake.

Come join us on our camping adventure with children; from washing cloth diapers to sleeping in our van!

Our Montessori Inspired Toddler Bedroom (Twin Style!)

Welcome back to the blog, loves! Today we are talking about our favorite room in the apartment; the boys Montessori inspired toddler bedroom! This was the room that took me well over 3 months to concentrate on in order to find exactly what the boys needed.

In those 3 months, the house was a bit chaotic and the boys just could NOT wind down. The family room turned into their playroom, my bedroom turned into their jumping room, the kitchen turned into their drumming room and we all needed a break haha. I realized that the one thing missing from our home was a room without distractions; a relaxing room for reading books, rubbing bellies and daydreaming. That is this very room!

The Inspiration

When we moved into our new home, I had plans for every single room except for the boy’s bedroom…I just could not figure out how I wanted to go about decorating. For the first three months, this bedroom was simply two twin mattresses, the boys shared XL crib, a box of toys and cardboard boxes taped to the window to keep the light out. It was horrid haha.

After we completed the living room and kitchen, I knew that this room had to go with the flow of the house; primarily white and green, minimalistic (of course), very natural, and above all, relaxing. I had this crazy idea; what if this room was ONLY for sleeping and relaxing? What if, as crazy as it sounds, I created the most relaxing zone for my twin boys?

And it worked like a charm. An absolute charm.

Montessori Inspired Toddler Beds

I fell in love with the idea of Montessori floor beds during my research to figure out which method I wanted the boys to be educated from; Montessori or Waldorf. We have not yet decided between homeschooling and traditional education or Montessori and Waldorf, but we have decided that we thoroughly love both, from the toys that are played with to the beds that the children sleep in.

Traditionally, Montessori floor beds are used from a very young age (I read a range between 4 months and 1 year). We started our floor bed experience at 14 months and I think it was a wonderful transition for Leo and Alessandro. They had just started to use each other to catapult out of their shared crib, so this was much safer!

The beds were purchased locally but you can find very similar (and even more gorgeous in my opinion) bed options on Etsy:

We found the braided linen bumpers on Etsy. We ordered these specifically for the rolling off of the teepee beds and it worked beautifully! I was able to tie the ends and keep the bumper in place.

For the blanket and sheets, we went ahead and used Martin’s blankets from when he was a teenager (his mother saves it all!) and just had them professionally cleaned. I purchased the duvet covers from Etsy. I opted for linen covers and it was a great choice! Of course, since then we have purchased a few more sheets and blankets: I have come to love the sheets from Little Green Radicals!

The Storage

When we purchased the beds, we also threw in the matching closet that is Montessori inspired as well. It is low enough in height for the children to reach and also to add some free cloth boxes at the bottom for various shirts, pants, and socks. This is another one that would work great!

Here’s a gorgeous bedroom penderie that you may also love:

We had a bit of trouble in the beginning (about 2 days time) with the boys throwing the clothes all around, but with a bit of respectful parenting and proper blocking, they have not mishandled the clothing since!

I snagged two wicker bedside tables from facebook marketplace for quite cheap and use these for onesies, pajamas and extra shirts. I keep their clothing amount as limited as possible for my own sanity as well as theirs. They really enjoy choosing their own clothes and we have lots of fun with it.

Lastly, I used a wooden coat wall hanging to hang their backpacks and heavy jackets. They love to take the backpacks on and off and stuff them with various toys from the living room.

The Decor

I had a bit of a “relax” room in our previous home that had fake vines lining the ceiling. We carefully removed these and wrapped them around the top of the tipi frame. I also hung up a dream catcher that I snagged from Etsy while I lived in Hawaii, laid down a rug from Maison du Monde that was a housewarming gift from my family, and lastly hung up random decor that we had hung up in our old garden.

Here are some look-alike rugs you may like:

We only had my Peace Lily Plants in here for the initial photos. They are safely back in the living room and bathroom where they receive much more sunlight. We have since swapped out for Jade Plants!

The Effects of Montessori Inspired Toddler Bedroom

My sons are extremely active; they run, jump, sing, scream, wrestle, cuddle, roll, dance and take bites out of every piece of fruit in the house and hide them in random places for me to find later. I created this space for them to wind down and take a breather.

Like I said earlier, it worked like a charm. The boys just turned two and use this space for quiet play (especially when they are a bit upset over a toy being taken by the other or just tired from a long day) and reading. Reading happens primarily in this room and occurs right before naptime or bedtime.

I adore the twin beds because I can fall asleep with them at any time of the day and all three of us are comfortable. Martin joins us a lot in family nap times and we each take one in our arms and cuddle them to sleep.

When the boys are sleeping alone, they simply wake up and open the door and join us in our bed (or wherever we are at the moment) and I believe this sense of freedom has truly opened up a new line of trust and respect between us. I trust them to stay in their bed until they need me, and they trust me to be there for them with just a “Mama” call.
